Two BIG Friends events on the way...

Hope you're making plans to join us for two very special events coming up on on July 31st and August 2nd!

On Friday, July 31st, the Andover Friends of the Library are sponsoring a top-notch Bluegrass show for the whole family featuring the Feinberg Brothers!  These teenage brothers from the Bluegrass hamlet of Long Island have been performing all over the Northeast for the past several summers, and in June, they celebrated the release of their very first band CD.  Rourke (fiddle) and Patrick Feinberg (mandolin) have a classical music background, but they've been able to create their own classic brother-duet sound with a fine band that includes their dad, Ronnie Feinberg on guitar, Terry McGill on the banjo, and Peter Elegant playing the bass.  Bring your chairs and blankets for a FREE outdoor show at the Andover Gazebo, 35 School Road (located between the Andover Town Hall and the Andover Elementary School).
Showtime is 6:30PM, and the show will be inside the Andover Community Room in the Town Hall in the event of rain.  The Friends will be selling ice cream that has been donated by Highland Park Market.  For a bit of a preview of the Feinbergs' sound, watch this YouTube clip of their appearance last summer on the Wheeling (WV) Jamboree:

You may also learn more about the Feinberg Brothers by visiting their website:  http://feinbergbrothers.com/

Another big event happens for the Library Friends on Sunday, August 2nd when members will become sandwich makers at the Andover Subway (inside the X-Tra Mart on Route 6) from 4-7PM.  A full FIFTY (50!) PERCENT of any sandwich, drink, salad, cookie you buy between 4:00 and 7:00PM on August 2nd will be donated to the Andover Friends of the Library!  Last year, the Friends raised more than $400 during that three-hour time period, and we hope to top that amount this year.  With your help -- and your appetite! -- we can!

If you'd like any information about either of these events, visit our Facebook postings on them here for the Feinberg Brothers show and here for the Subway fundraiser.  You can also call the library:  860-742-7428.

Thanks for supporting these two great events -- we'll look forward to seeing you and several of your friends!!

**NEW** LIBRARY HOURS starting June 1st!!

In case you've not heard, the Andover Public Library will be adjusting our operating hours beginning on Monday, June 1, 2015.  Please take note of the new schedule:

Monday - 10AM-8PM

Tuesday - 3-8PM
Wednesday - 10AM-8PM
Thursday - 3-8PM
Friday - CLOSED
Saturday - 10AM-2PM

While the library will no longer be open on Fridays (for the foreseeable future, at least), the closed-for-a-couple-hours-in-the-midday gap has been eliminated on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Also -- and perhaps, more importantly -- our Saturday hours will run all year round.  This means that the library will not be closed on Saturdays in July & August!  We feel like these hours are slightly easier to remember, and we sure hope you agree!

Should you be confused, though, remember to look for the outside lights near the front door to be ON when the library is open!  The "Open" flag also flies when the library is open.

In the fall, we'll likely add some hours to the Tuesday & Thursday schedule, but for June, July, and August, we're going with the hours you see above in blue.

Visit us -- and bring a friend!

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

The preliminary Friends' auction list is here!

Coming up this Friday evening -- April 24th -- we sure hope to see you at the Andover Friends of the Library's annual Goods & Services Auction!  This wonderful event will be held at the Andover Elementary School Cafeteria and features wonderful baked goods, drawings, and lots and lots of wonderful items up for bid!  The preview begins at 6PM and the auction at 6:30PM.  Hope you can be there to support this terrific fundraising event for the Andover Public Library!

See you there!

Coming to your Andover PL during School Vacation Week -- April 13-17, 2015...

We've got some dandy programs lined up to keep the kids (and their adults) busy during April Vacation Week:  April 13-17.  Check 'em out...and be here!  If you have questions about any of these activities, give us a call at the library:  860-742-7428...

 Needle Arts:
Monday, April 13 -- 11:30AM-1PM

We can work on our current projects together.  If you would like to learn to knit or crochet, let us know ahead of time so we can match you up with a volunteer tutor. Bring either a crochet hook or knitting needles, plus yarn, and a willing spirit for beginners. Let us know you are coming so we can save you a seat, call the library at 860-742-7428.

StoryTime:
Wednesday, April 15 -- 10:30-11:30AM

We will spend an hour reading, share something for Show’N’Tell, and coloring a page or two. All children are welcome, so come and enjoy a story with us.

Mr. Magic Returns:
Wednesday, April 15 -- 6:30-7:30PM

Guest entertainer, Mr. Magic (also known as Attorney Richard Rothstein) returns to the library for an evening of magic and fun!  Mr. Magic has been performing magic shows for more than 35 years, entertaining children of all ages.  Bring a friend or two to this fun, FREE evening!

Imagination ‘n Creation:
Friday, April 17 -- 10:30AM-12:30PM
This promises to be a fun morning of making things out of a huge pile of “stuff.” Mrs. C. has lots of paper, scissors, yarn, stickers, chalk, toothpicks, pompoms...you name it!  She's hoping to see some kids out there that just want to have fun and see what can be created out of the things we've collected. It's fun to recycle things from home and work and make them into something completely different.  If you have things at home and would like to decorate them, i.e. used coffee container, cans. milk or juice jugs, sticks, cardboard boxes, etc., bring them along to work on here. There are no rules on our creating, we’ll only be limited by our imaginations.  As a bonus, there will be snacks for all crafters!
